A search and rescue operation is below method in Japan after an incident involving two US Marine Corps plane.

The planes concerned are a KC-130 and an F/A 18, carrying a complete of seven personnel, US media quoted officers as saying.

The Marine Corps tweeted that the incident occurred at about 02:00 on Thursday (17:00 GMT Wednesday).

US media say the 2 planes crashed throughout midair refuelling however this has not been formally confirmed.

The Marine Corps stated the planes “have been conducting often scheduled coaching when the mishap occurred”.

Some media reviews stated the planes had taken off from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, which is close to Hiroshima within the south-west of the nation and that the incident occurred off the coast.
